6 Reasons to Practice Mindfulness

The essence of mindfulness

Mindfulness enables us to live and experience the current moment. It allows us to develop the ability to not worry about the past or the future but remain grounded firmly with what we are experiencing this current moment. Given the distractions and the fallacies of the world we are exposed to all the time, it is really challenging for us to stay grounded in the present moment. When everywhere you look everyone is talking about how something has just finished or how something may turn pout to be in the future, it can be rather demanding and stressful to bring your attention back to the present.

The practice of Mindfulness takes time and patience to develop. But once you have developed the ability, you can easily use it anytime anywhere. The interesting thing about the practice of Mindfulness is that you don't need to sit in the quiet or take a specific posture. Mindfulness is about your ability to bring your full attention to whatever you are engaged in that instance for instance - walking on the road, having a cup of tea, exercising, meditating, eating, listening to music, or anything else.

Some common rewards of practicing mindfulness

While there are endless rewards to developing your ability to be Mindful in any given situation, there are a few common ones for you to ponder on below:

1. Reduces your stress

Stress is a common by-product when we are thinking about the past or the future. It is often most aggravated when we feel helpless to control something that may have happened a while ago or something we may fear can happen in the future.

2. Improves Your Focus

With so many distractions all around us, the general productivity is bound to get affected. Practicing mindfulness helps sharper your mind by sharpening your focus and allows you to build your attention span.

3. Improves Emotional Regulation

Emotional training is an essential part of developing your emotional intelligence as well as to build resilience. But, it is often missing from our formal education. Mindfulness helps you build a relationship of greater trust in yourself and your ability to deal with disruptions and demand and the accompanying emotions that tend to disturb us.

4. Improves Your Mental Wellbeing

Mindfulness allows you to find a way to stay grounded in the current moment. By letting go of the regrets about your past and any worries about your future, you enable yourself to improve your mental health and wellbeing.

5. Enhances your Self-image

I firmly believe that all the answers to your most troubling questions are within yourself. You are connected to the cosmos by the thread of life. By being mindful you allow yourself to tap into that endless energy and begin to gather the immense power that lies within you.
